WASHINGTON, Jan. 15, 2014 – Acting Deputy Secretary of Defense Christine Fox met today with the Director General of Israel’s Defense Ministry, Maj. Gen. (ret.) Dan Harel, during which both countries reaffirmed the strength of the U.S.-Israeli Defense relationship.
This was Harel’s first visit to the United States in his current capacity, and Ms. Fox’s first official foreign delegation meeting since becoming Acting Deputy Secretary of Defense.
After the meeting, Pentagon Spokesman James Swartout issued a statement saying the leaders committed to working closely to ensure Israel has the capabilities it needs to maintain its qualitative military edge. This includes, he said, Israel’s acquisition of several advanced capabilities from the United States, including the V-22 Osprey, which the U.S. has not released to any other nation.
Swartout said the decision underscores that military-to-military cooperation between the United States and Israel is stronger than ever.
