DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Mitt Romney says he won’t pursue any abortion legislation if elected president.
The Republican presidential nominee tells the Des Moines Register on Tuesday that, quote, “There’s no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda.”
Romney says he will instead use an executive order to reinstate the so-called Mexico City policy banning American foreign aid from funding abortions.
President Barack Obama’s campaign says the Republican challenger is not telling the truth about his position. Obama campaign officials cite a remark from a 2007 GOP debate that he would “be delighted” to sign a bill banning all abortions.
The Romney campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.
He said it is not part of HIS agenda. He did not say he would not sign a bill if it were put before him. Romney realises that his first priority is going to have to be rebuilding the economy, and the nations defense system. Don’t try to read more into what he said then what he meant.
