Dog’s Killing Stuns Australian Family

An Australian family is mourning its miniature fox terrier, which was thrown into a neighbor’s driveway and mauled to death by guard dogs on New Year’s Eve.

Geoff Kingsley, who lives in the Adelaide suburb of Enfield, told The (Sydney) Daily Telegraph he found Charlie, a member of our family,” dead in a driveway, apparently thrown over a fence and then mauled by Rottweilers and Dobermans. He noticed the pet missing around 8:30 p.m.

Kingsley said his children are devastated .

Tricia Kingsley said Charlie was rarely left alone and could not possibly have made it into the driveway.

“I don’t know what would have gone through someone’s mind to want to hurt a little dog, a defenseless little dog,” she said.

They called a friend, security firm owner Bill Smeaton, to retrieve Charlie’s body. Armed with a baton, he jumped the fence, scared the guard dogs off and was able to pick up Charlie without being hurt.
