Atlanta Indo-American Film Festival (AIAFF 2009)

Treasures from India's National Film Development Corporation

The fourth annual Atlanta Indo-American Film Festival (AIAFF 2009) will take place August 21 to October 31, 2009, in Georgia, USA. The festival will be divided in two parts and features “Treasures from India’s National Film Development Corporation.”

Part I will be held at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta from August 21 to September 13. AIAFF 2009 is organized by the High Museum of Art, with the support of the NFDC, India, Lufthansa German Airlines, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Department of Economic Development, USIII and other sponsors.

In Part II, from September 14 to October 31, AIAFF 2009 will tour universities in Georgia: Emory University, Georgia Tech, Georgia State University, Kennesaw State University, Georgia College and State University, State University of West Georgia and Clayton State University.

AIAFF was originally founded by Ani Agnihotri, the Director of the Indo-American Film Society as well as the Managing Partner of the U.S. India Business and Research Center (USIBRC). “This year,” says Agnihotri, “we are bringing the Atlanta community a unique group of films, including twelve films from the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), India. The primary goal of the NFDC is to plan, promote and organize an integrated and efficient development of the Indian film industry and foster excellence in cinema. Over the years NFDC has provided a wide range of services essential to the growth of Indian cinema.

Agnihotri foresees future collaborative opportunities for the U.S. and Indian film/entertainment industry, “Hollywood and Bollywood are two of the largest filmmaking enterprises in the world and we are seeing more and more collaboration in the areas of production and location within these powerful organizations and with independent films as well.” 

In addition to developing the U.S. India film and entertainment business, USIBRC has been very active since its founding in 2006, interfacing U.S. and Indian companies, educational institutions and cultural exchanges to promote business opportunities.

Within the context of the global and U.S. recession, Agnihotri forecasts new opportunities on the horizon for those who are ready and willing to think anew. “The areas of education, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, medicine, manufacturing and green technologies are ripe for reinvention and exploration. These are third millennium priorities and those who take advantage of this unique economic time will reap great benefits in both the U.S. and Indian markets.”

USIBRC is at the forefront in providing a key link between two of the most promising economies and cultures in today’s world and in providing leadership to a better and brighter global scenario.
