The need to replace a motor responsible for parts of a cooling process at the Hammerfest liquefied natural gas plant in Norway is causing delays, Statoil said.
The Norwegian energy giant said "technical challenges" delayed the launch of the Hammerfest LNG project in northern Norway.
Statoil said the Hammerfest LNG facility underwent "extensive" modifications to ensure that the gas processing and liquefaction plant can maintain production.
The Norwegian giant said all modifications were contributing to operations as expected. A fault related to an electric motor in a cooling process at Hammerfest, however, caused unexpected delays.
The company said it must now replace that motor, postponing the launch.
Statoil stressed the motor fault is not related to previous upgrades to the facility. The company said it had planned an original restart for earlier this month but warned the latest fault would take at least two weeks to address.
