Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life," sold 469,000 copies in its first week in stores, Nielsen BookScan said Wednesday.

Sales of the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee's book outpaced those of James Patterson's novel, "I, Alex Cross," which was No. 2, and Stephen King's novel, "Under the Dome," now No. 3, The New York Times reported.

"Going Rogue" also produced the second-best first-week sales of any memoir by a president, or vice-presidential or presidential candidate, Nielsen BookScan said. Only Bill Clinton's "My Life" has done better, selling 606,000 copies in its first week in 2004.

Palin's publisher, HarperCollins said 700,000 copies actually sold in the first week. Nielsen BookScan does not include sales at some large retailers, like Wal-Mart and Sam's Club, the Times said.
