Two Siberian bear cubs given to Switzerland by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev are said to have made themselves at home in Bern, Switzerland.
RIA Novosti said Friday, citing a report from the Swiss ATS agency, the two cubs caught by hunters this spring are now residents of a Bern zoo where they initially faced a two-month quarantine as a precaution.
Medvedev and his wife Svetlana gave the two cubs, named Misha and Masha, to Switzerland while visiting in late September.
RIA Novosti said the gift from the Russian leader and his wife came in advance of the opening of Bern's Bear Pit tourist attraction.
The newly enlarged attraction is designed to house bears in a large environment intended to reflect the animals' natural environment.
Bern's name originates from the German word for "bear," just as Medvedev's surname comes from "medved," the Russian word meaning "bear."
