A company whose bus rolled over with Morehouse College band students aboard isn't authorized to operate in Georgia, records indicate.
The Georgia Public Service Commission lists Superior Transportation Group as one of 12 carriers it believes are conducting business "without the lawful authority necessary to legally conduct intrastate transportation of passengers and their luggage," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.
The newspaper said 12 band members from Morehouse, located in Atlanta, were injured Saturday when the bus overturned on Interstate 75 while en route to a football game in Albany, Ga. One student reportedly remained hospitalized Monday night at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Morehouse officials told the Journal-Constitution that the school never contracted with Superior Transportation to transport the band.
"Morehouse College hired Adventure Bus Charter and Tours Inc., based in Sumiton, Ala.," spokeswoman Toni O'Neal Mosley said in a statement. "We are conducting an internal investigation to determine how Superior Transportation Group Inc. in Atlanta was involved."
