Toyota Motor Corp. said it would make engine override brake systems standard following the recall of 3.8 million vehicles -- it's largest ever recall.

Toyota is reacting to at least a dozen fatalities blamed on sudden acceleration of vehicles with the primary culprit being floor mats that become entangled with gas pedals.

With cars allegedly accelerating despite drivers applying the brakes, Toyota said it would install override systems in many of the recalled cars that cuts power when the brakes and gas are applied at the same time, the Detroit Free Press reported Thursday.

The company also said it would become standard equipment for cars by the end of next year.

Among recalled vehicles, Toyota plans the new systems for Camrys, Avalons and Lexus ES350s, IS350s and IS250s, the newspaper said.
