Blake Advances At Indian Wells

James Blake and David Nalbandian both won in straight sets Friday, advancing to the second round of the BNP Paribas Open.

Blake posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Daniel Gimeno-Traver, needing only 55 minutes to prevail at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Nalbandian, who has been as high as third in the world rankings, defeated qualifier Stefan Koubek 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).

Others advancing to the second round included Victor Hanescu, Sergiy Stakhovsky, Thiemo De Bakker, Andres Seppi, Michael Russell, Ricardo Mello, Paul-Henri Mathieu, Arnaud Clement and Evgeny Korolev.

The 32 seeded players in this Masters Series event received byes past the first round.

Roger Federer is seeded No. 1, followed by Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
