CCL-Forensics, the UK’s leading computer analysis and mobile phone forensics company has taken a major step forward in achieving major quality standards – cementing its position as an industry leader.

The company, which provides computer analysis services to a wide range of public and private sector companies, already has ISO9001-2008 certification – and is one of the few digital forensics companies with ISO27001.

It has now submitted its first stage application for the in-depth ISO17025 certification, required by the Home Office Forensic Science Regulator.

ISO17025 is a laboratory calibration standard, which all digital forensics and computer analysis companies should adhere to, as the industry moves towards a much more tightly regulated environment.

CCL-Forensics employs a dedicated Standards and Compliance Manager to administrate the complex task of applying for these standards, as well as ensuring regular audits are held to keep the standards up to date.  The current ISO9001 and ISO27001 certifications are independently audited every six months by a UKAS accredited body.

ISO17025, being a more complex process, will be certified and audited by UKAS directly.

The company is one of the longest established suppliers of digital forensics services, performing mobile phone and computer analysis in criminal cases and within organisations where computer misuse is suspected.

CCL-Forensics Total Quality Manager, David Lattimore says “Our current certifications to ISO9001 and ISO27001 demonstrate our commitment to quality, but our recent first stage application for ISO17025 shows that we are at the forefront of quality.

It also demonstrates that we are a driving force in ensuring that the digital forensics industry adheres to the stringent processes and procedures of ISO17025.

It is a long and complex process, but we are confident that, as one of the biggest suppliers of computer analysis and mobile phone forensics services, we will soon undergo the thorough auditing process and be certified to this important standard.”

CCL-Forensics completed its first stage application for ISO17025 in November, and hopes to be fully certified in the first few months of 2010.  The standard is seen as a major requirement for companies providing these services, and gives confidence to customers that their digital evidence is being handled correctly.

ISO9001 is an internationally recognised quality standard which many digital forensics companies hold.  CCL-Forensics recommends that customers verify that their supplier’s ISO9001 certification is regularly and independently audited.

ISO27001 is a standard for data security, and it is vital that computer analysis and forensics companies adhere to this standard.  It gives the customer the confidence that their, often sensitive, evidence is in safe hands.
