Four people were killed on an Indiana highway when a car collided with a sport utility vehicle, authorities said.

The Whitley County Sheriff's Department said a driver of a Plymouth Neon was killed in Tuesday's crash on state Road 5 near Warhill, along with a man and two women who were passengers, The (Fort Wayne) Journal Gazette reported.

Police said the car crashed into a GMC Yukon while attempting to pass a car in a no-passing zone.

Police said the four killed suffered head and internal injuries. Their ages and identities were not released.

The Journal Gazette said the driver of the SUV, identified as John Brooks, 56, of Roanoke, was taken to a hospital, but the extent of his injuries and current condition were not reported.
