General Dynamics Land Systems contracted Optex Systems Holdings Inc. for periscopes for the weapons station on the M1A2 Abrams Tank.

General Dynamics placed a $1.9 million purchase order for periscopes for the Improved Commander's Weapons Station for the M1A2 Abrams from Optex Systems, the company said.

"This is the latest step in our ongoing relationship with General Dynamics Land Systems and demonstrates our ongoing track record of delivery of quality products and great customer service," said Danny Schoening, chief operating officer at Optex Systems.

Optex Systems is the manufacturer of optical sighting systems and assemblies for U.S. Defense Department programs, including the Abrams and Bradley fighting vehicles.

The company currently manufactures other plastic periscopes for the M1A2. Delivery of the ICWS periscopes for the Abrams begins January 2011 and continues through 2013.
