J.J. Redick stepped in for an injured Vince Carter Sunday and scored 23 points, leading the Orlando Magic to a 103-97 victory over Denver.
Redick was especially effective in the fourth quarter, connecting for seven crucial points down the stretch as the Magic won for the 13th time in 15 games.
Ryan Anderson put in 19 points off the bench and Dwight Howard contributed 18 points and 11 rebounds for Orlando, which strengthened its hold on second place in the Eastern Conference and maintained a 4 1/2 game lead on Atlanta atop the Southeast Division.
The Magic got some bad news when Carter sustained a sprained right big toe in a collision with Denver's Aaron Afflalo 95 seconds into the game.
Carmelo Anthony netted 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Denver, which despite its 16th loss in 17 games against Orlando clinched a playoff berth Sunday when Memphis lost to Milwaukee.
